LLSS443: Childrens Literature
Frances Vitali
Midterm Summary
The use of technology in this class is fun but I don’t have internet
connection at home so I have to drive to the Dine College in Shiprock to use the computer to submit my assignments. The research on the
genres was a good way to understand my genre and the amount of categories in a genre (picture books).
Dimensions of Learning:
Confidence- My confidence
level is about average, I worry that I never get enough reading done but I try my best.
Skills and Strategies-I
do my readings at home and since my daughters are at home with me in the evenings we try practicing reading as a family. I
do read aloud with my older daughter who is in the sixth grade.
Knowledge Content- I
think I get most out of the discussions in class. I knew very little about literature circles and being at Tibbets will help
me to observe literature circles.
Use of Prior and Emerging
Experience- Being a mother of two girls is the experience I have brought to this class. I reflect on their learning development
as I do my classroom observations.
Reflection- Reflections
is a key element in understanding what I’m learning. My reflections are often personal and about what I’ve learned
or observed.
This semester
continues to be difficult for me. I enjoy the class but due to health reasons I have trouble keeping on task. The grade I
think I deserve at this point is an A. Although I constantly worry about not getting enough reading done, I’ve actually
done more reading this semester.
